Taming of the Shrew
Messiah College Fall 2014
Strongly influenced by Pop Art, this production of Shakespeare’s controversial comedy emphasized the interplay between the Bard’s characters over and above his literary structure and social inferences. As a result, the set’s architectural elements were neutralized with a harsh wash of white, creating a clean canvas upon which to “paint” shockingly colorful scenes and characters.

CINDERELLA
WSCA Musical Production 2015
This production utilized silver film and cardboard tubes to convey an atmosphere which we conceptually described as “magically clever, beautifully quirky”—a statement chosen with deference to this “enchanted” update of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic, which thrives on the occasional and surprising inclusion of anachronistic idioms. Our goal was to embrace the silliness and fun engendered in this revival without losing the steadfast and timeless enchantment of the original.

WSCA Spring 2014
For this high school production of the Edwardian musical, scenic elements were sculpted and painted to resemble Victorian children’s figurines. Most notably, stone towers were treated with expanding foam to create the illusion that they were poured in a mold. A series of three track stages was employed to carry the simple and toy-like elements on and off stage.
